{"id":3744,"date":"2019-03-26T20:25:19","date_gmt":"2019-03-26T20:25:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.sourcingmatters.show\/?p=3744"},"modified":"2021-12-22T17:16:18","modified_gmt":"2021-12-22T17:16:18","slug":"ep-75-teresa-ish-foundational-ocean","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sourcingmatters.show\/index.php\/2019\/03\/26\/ep-75-teresa-ish-foundational-ocean\/","title":{"rendered":"Ep.75: Teresa Ish &#8211; Foundational Ocean Health"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3>Ep. 75: Teresa Ish, Program Officer of the Environment @ The Walton Family Foundation ||<\/h3>\n<div>\n<p>On Sourcing Matters episode 75 we welcome Teresa Ish &#8211; Oceans Initiative Program Officer at The Walton Family Foundation. \u00a0Ish manages grants in the Environment Program that leverage the power of the supply chain to advocate for more sustainable fisheries.<\/p>\n<p>Weeks prior to recording I had the opportunity to meet with Ish at the Seafood Expo North America (SENA) in Boston. \u00a0Teresa provided a walking tour of the SENA floor &#8211; introducing us to three change agents in the future of fisheries:<\/p>\n<div>\n<ol>\n<li><b>Casey Marion<\/b>\u00a0&#8211; the Director of Sustainability Initiatives for Quality Management for Florida based <em>Sea Best<\/em>. \u00a0Casey shared with us some of the systems they\u2019ve introduced to better understand sophisticated supply chains in global fisheries.<\/li>\n<li><b>Mauricio Orellana &#8211;\u00a0<\/b>a\u00a0leader in the Octopus fishery on the Yucat\u00e1n Peninsula\u00a0in Mexico. \u00a0We learn first hand about this unique example of a future responsible fishery built to service its community of fisherman through first appreciating its resources. \u00a0 &#8211; We also learn a bit more about the soul of an Octopus.<\/li>\n<li>Our final stop was in my native New England waters. \u00a0We learn from\u00a0<b>Richard Stavis<\/b>\u00a0&#8211; of the iconic brand, <em>Stavis Seafood<\/em>;\u00a0<b>Luke Holden &#8211;\u00a0<\/b>founder of <em>Luke\u2019s Lobster<\/em>;\u00a0<b>Dick Jones<\/b>\u00a0of <em>Ocean Outcomes,<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0<b>Sean Murphy<\/b>\u00a0of <em>Sustainable Fisheries Partnership<\/em>. During her tenure at EDF, she played an instrumental role in merging the organization&#8217;s seafood buyer work and its extensive experience in the fishery policy arena.
